Easter with hares and chicks

On Easter Sunday, children in German-speaking Switzerland look for their Osternestli, a little Easter nest, and then play Eiertütschen: two hard-boiled eggs are tapped together, and the egg that stays whole wins. If there is a finger puppet or small hand puppet in the nest, the child can carry on playing with it after the game.

The Easter hare and its relatives

Hares are born with fur and open eyes, whereas baby rabbits are born naked and blind, so the Easter hare would be ready to hide eggs on its very first day. Among the hand puppets, hares sit alongside tame rabbit breeds such as lop and Dutch rabbits, and hares and lop rabbits also come as soft toys.

Chickens, chicks and lambs

Chickens as hand puppets are perfect for a little squabble: who painted the prettier Easter egg? Chicks and ducklings come as finger puppets from Folkmanis and The Puppet Company, and lambs as hand puppets.
