Equipped with a realistic sounding grunter that activates with a squeeze of his pot belly, this cuddly little porker will have you laughing out loud. The Folkmanis grunting pig hand puppet wears silky soft plush in pale pink with grey patches and finishes with a curly tail. A workable snout, mouth and front trotters bring him to life.
The domestic pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) descends from the wild boar and was tamed some 9,000 years ago. Its snout sits on a small bone of its own and works like a spade, lifting soil aside to reach roots, fungi and grubs. Pigs eat plant and animal food alike, which makes them thorough foragers of almost any ground. Within a group a firm rank order forms, and every piglet in a litter keeps the same teat throughout the suckling weeks. Since pig skin barely sweats, the animals wallow in mud; the drying layer cools them and keeps insects off.
Did you know that pigs distinguish more than twenty separate calls? A short grunt greets, a low one settles the litter, a sharp squeal announces hunger or annoyance. Nursing sows even grunt in rhythm for as long as the piglets feed.
