Mottled grey fur, a light chest, sand-coloured paws and a bushy tail: the wolf soft toy by Anima captures the posture of an alert wolf and is thoroughly soft with it. For children fascinated by wolves that is precisely the appeal: an animal that looks dangerous and still comes to bed. And because wolves have been roaming German forests again for some years, the plush toy becomes a starting point in class for telling the fairy-tale wolf from the real animal. The wolf has a sitting height of approximately 27 cm. The tail measures approximately 13 cm separately.

The wolf (Canis lupus) was once the most widespread land mammal on earth. Head and body length usually runs from one to 1.6 metres, with a shoulder height of 66 to 91 centimetres. A pack is normally a family: the parent pair and their offspring, usually five to twelve animals. Territories range from 75 to 2,500 square kilometres depending on the landscape. In central Europe wolves hunt mainly roe deer, red deer and wild boar. In Germany around 219 packs were counted in the 2024/25 survey year.

Did you know that wolves can hear one another across eleven kilometres? In wooded country a howl carries that far, and it serves a clear purpose: marking the territory. Field experiments show that a pack which does not howl back is more likely to withdraw. Wolves smell with around 280 million olfactory receptors — in a favourable wind they detect prey over 2.5 kilometres. Every domestic dog, incidentally, descends from them.
